All 30 series and 50td mark 1s had the steering on the outside. the 40td and 50td mark 2s had the levers on the inside.

I used to have a 50TD with levers on the outside - is yours a 4 or 6 cylinder?

Kenneth Your 50td 6 cylinder would be a mark 1, the mark 2 had the steering levers on the inside. All 30td 30itd 4 cyl had the levers on the outside, The 40td had them on the inside.
